href=\"https:\/\/provenienzforschung.gv.at\/en\/empfehlungen-des-beirats\/kunstruckgabegesetze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art Restitution Act<\/a><\/span> in 1998, the Republic of Austria assumed responsibility for identifying movable artworks and cultural objects in the federal collections that had been confiscated during the Nazi period and transferring them to their former owners or legal successors. The Commission for Provenance Research is responsible for the systematic investigation of the collections.
